About Counseling with Amory

My Approach
I provide mental health counseling in person in Bangor and virtually across Maine for adults navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, life transitions, relationship issues, the emotional weight of demanding roles, and/or who want to make a change.

My style is warm, collaborative, practical, and with a bit of humor added in. I believe therapy should feel supportive — not clinical or intimidating. You should feel safe and like your therapist really listens and gets you. At the same time, it should also help you make real, meaningful changes.
I use a variety of counseling approaches and interventions including trauma-focused counseling, CBT, DBT, ACT, narrative therapy, Adlerian therapy, solution focused, internal family systems, and strengths based counseling.

In our work together, you can expect:
-
A space where you can speak openly without judgment
-
Practical tools to manage stress, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm
-
Thoughtful conversations that help you understand patterns and build resilience
-
Steady, consistent support as you work toward feeling more grounded and in control
You set the pace, you set the goals. We focus on what matters most to you.

I believe in meeting people where they are and creating a therapeutic relationship built on trust, honesty, and respect. The alphabet soup of letters after my name let's you know that I have over 20 years of experience helping others to reach their goals and change their lives. You can see more about my training and professional background in the section below.

I find great enjoyment in connecting with others, being outside, and doing something to move my body. I'm an avid indoor and outdoor gardener. My favorite roles have been those that help others to learn and grow (coach, mentor, teacher, etc.).
